Every single person who works feels stress at some point. If you feel as though the stress you are experiencing just feels like too much at times then you have to remember that you are not alone. So many people are in the same situation as you, but there are things that you can do to try and help yourself.
Track your Stressors
The first thing that you need to do is track your stressors. You have to make sure that you keep a journal for a few weeks as this will help you to identify any situations that may be giving you stress, so that you can take the right steps to remedy them. Did you raise your voice at anyone? Did you feel agitated at being disturbed? Considering things like this can help you to pinpoint the things that you have a problem with. If you know that you are unable to hear your phone in the office because it’s so busy, then you may want to try and move to a quieter area so you can reduce your stress. If you have a hearing aid and find it difficult to hear in some situations, then hearing aid programming may be an option.
Develop Healthy Responses
It’s important that you do everything you can to try and develop healthy responses. You need to stop fighting your stress with things like food or alcohol. You also need to avoid fast food if you can. Exercise is a fantastic stress buster, but if you don’t want to workout, then you should know that any form of physical activity is great. Making time for your hobbies is also a good idea. If you like to read, go to concerts or even play games with family then this is great. Just make sure that you are setting time aside for things that bring you some degree of pleasure. Building a good sleeping habit will also help you out here, so minimize television at night if possible.
Establish some Boundaries
It’s vital that you do your part to try and establish boundaries. We live in a world that is fueled by digital devices, and although this is great, it can also make it very difficult for you to switch off. People tend to have different preferences when it comes to how much they like to merge work and home time, but that being said, you have to make sure that you create boundaries if possible. If you don’t, then you may find that you end up paying for it later and this is the last thing that you need.
If you want to avoid all of the negative impacts that come with chronic stress or even burnout then you have to take the time to recharge. You need to return to your pre-stress way of thinking and you also need to make sure that you give yourself time. If you don’t, then you may find that you are not able to engage in activities that relate to work or your personal life. Eventually you’ll burn out, and this can leave you feeling tired and fatigued.
